Franz Zöllner-Wiethoff founded his company of the same name in Oberlauter, a small village near Coburg in North Bavaria that, as well as its basic product, household paper, soon started producing gift-wrap paper.
The first factory was built in 1950, to which was added its own wastewater treatment plant in 1971 coupled with ongoing investment in printing plant and warehousing. Toward the end of the 1950s, production was successfully converted to a range of gift-wrapping paper. Then, in 1991, the whole production plant was moved to a newly built production facility in Neustadt/Coburg, a town that, because of German reunion, had developed into an attractive location in the heart of Europe.
